At Burton School we aim for a consistent standard of discipline throughout the school, where rules are clear and concise and where children, staff and parents work together to achieve an atmosphere of respect both for each other and the school environment. Be Respectful

In classrooms: Listen and accept others’ ideas or opinions when they are talking. Use appropriate volume.

In hallways: Use quiet voice/feet. Respect belongings of others.

In washrooms: Use quiet voice. Respect privacy . Use supplies properly.

Playgrounds: Respect nature.

Bus zone: Use quiet voice. Wait patiently.

Be Responsible

In classrooms: Take care of materials and workspace. Follow routines. Be aware of surroundings.

In hallways: Take care of belongings.

In washrooms: Clean up after yourself. Ask to go at appropriate times. Flush and wash.

Playgrounds: Follow entry/exit routines. Use your W.I.T.S.

Bus zone: Be aware of your surroundings. Stay with your line.

Be Safe

In classrooms: Move safely. Hands and feet to self. Use tools and materials appropriately.

In hallways: Walk. Stay to the righthand side. Hands and feet to self.

In washrooms: Walk. Keep water in sink and toilets. Hands and feet to self.

Playground: Move safely inside boundaries. Dress for weather. Use equipment safely.

Bus zone: Walk. Hands and feet to self. Follow the bus rules. Dress for the weather.

Be a Learner

In classrooms: Use whole body listening. Do your best work. Persevere.

In hallways: Get ready quickly and quietly. Return to class quickly.

In washrooms: Return to class quickly.

Playground: Play fair. Practice. Sportsmanship when winning or losing. Be a problem solver.

Bus zone: Know the bus rules.

Discipline

All efforts are made to be proactive in terms of student discipline however, when any student is having difficulty following the code of conduct, disciplinary action will be apportioned according to the seriousness of the offence.
